About Collapse Tester for Paper Tubes
The GLOBE Collapse Tester for Paper Tubes consists of a rigid platform for placing the test specimen on, an arrangement for compressing the specimen with the help of a manually operated hydraulic jack and measurement of maximum force with the help of calibrated pressure gauge with a dummy pointer.
The test specimen is placed on a flat steel platform and a moving flat rigid plate is lowered on it with the help of a hand wheel and screw arrangement so that it just touches the top of the sample. The load is then applied by a manually operated hydraulic jack placed below the lower plate, which lifts the lower plate to compress the specimen against the upper plate. The hydraulic pressure in the jack which is proportional to force on the specimen is measured on a pressure gauge with a dummy pointer to record the maximum pressure corresponds to collapse strength of the tube. The collapse strength is then determined in force unit with the help of calibration certificate for the pressure gauge provided with the equipment.
Two pressure gauges are fitted to the equipment, one for measuring low force and the other for measuring high force. An isolating valve is also provided on the low range pressure gauge for its safety to isolate it while conducting test on the high range pressure gauge.

FAQs of Collapse Tester for Paper Tubes:
Q: How does the Collapse Tester for Paper Tubes operate?
A: The tester uses a strain gauge-type load cell and is pneumatically operated to apply uniform pressure along the tubes length. The user places the specimen, sets parameters via the panel interface, and initiates the test in manual or automatic mode. The collapse strength is then digitally displayed with high accuracy.
Q: What types of paper tubes can be tested using this equipment?
A: The device accommodates standard paper tube inner diameters ranging from 25 mm to 150 mm and handles a maximum height of 400 mm, making it suitable for various tube and core dimensions commonly used in packaging and industrial applications.
Q: When should calibration of the Collapse Tester be performed?
A: Calibration is recommended before the initial use and periodically based on the frequency of testing or after moving the equipment. Since it is easily calibratable by the user and features a calibrated pressure gauge, maintaining accuracy is straightforward and efficient.
Q: Where is this equipment typically used?
A: This Collapse Tester is widely used in industries involved in the manufacturing and quality testing of paper tubes and cores, including those in packaging, textiles, and converting sectors, especially for quality assurance and export compliance purposes throughout India and beyond.
Q: What is the testing process for a paper tube collapse test?
A: Place the paper tube specimen within the tester, adjust the settings via the intuitive panel, and select either manual or automatic operation. The pneumatic cylinder then applies pressure at 12.5 mm/min until the tube collapses. The test result is displayed on the digital/LCD screen instantly.
Q: How does using this tester benefit manufacturers and suppliers?
A: By providing accurate, rapid, and reproducible results (1% accuracy, 0.1 kg resolution), this tester helps ensure product quality, meets international standards (TAPPI, ISO), and reduces the risk of shipment rejections due to poor tube strength, thus safeguarding reputation and customer satisfaction.
Q: Can the Collapse Tester be used in environments with variable humidity and temperature?
A: Yes, the equipment can operate efficiently in conditions up to 85% relative humidity and temperatures ranging from 10C to 40C, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial environments.
